How to Turn Your Rental or House Into the Perfect Place for Your Family

Your home is your castle. Whether it’s an apartment or house, there are several ways to ensure it’s the ideal environment for you and your family. One of the best ways to make your living space comfortable is to decorate it. While it may seem expensive, spending money redecorating your home can be highly beneficial to your lifestyle. Here are some tips from Eastern Oregon Living to get you started.

Add Some Vegetation

Plants help promote good air quality and improve your mental well-being. You don’t have to purchase expensive ones. Start small with inexpensive trees and flowers that have simple care instructions. Also, consider how much sun exposure your home receives before buying any plants. These can be especially useful if you work from home, as they’ll help reduce stress and promote a relaxed atmosphere.

A Little Paint

If your home’s walls look a little drab, you may want to repaint them. You can even brighten up your office with a fresh coat of paint that’s a different color. Choose shades that will make you happy by helping create a positive mood, such as light greens or blues.

Keep it Clean

Nothing changes a space like a good deep cleaning. But did you know that many common household cleaners contain harmful chemicals? Instead of using these toxic products, try using common household ingredients to make your own safer options. Plus, these items are much cheaper than their commercial alternatives. Try baking soda to deodorize or remove soap scum, and vinegar to dissolve oils and minerals. In fact, it can even be used to eliminate weeds in your yard!

Replace Furniture

Your home’s furniture can be a huge factor in your family’s well-being. If you have old, uncomfortable chairs or couches, replacing them with newer ones can be a way to upgrade your living space. The same goes for old rugs and carpets, as well as desks and tables.

Don’t toss old furniture that’s still comfortable but has some unsightly damage to the upholstery. You can contact furniture upholstery services to see if they can make these pieces of furniture look new so you can add them to your home office.

Install Floating Shelves

You can add character to your home by placing floating shelves in unexpected places. For example, if there are corners of bare walls in your living room, you could put a set of floating shelves there. Looking for a DIY project? Consider making custom-sized floating shelves for a unique addition to your home. This simple step adds style and character, but it can reduce clutter, improving mood.

Add a Kitchen Island

Do you love entertaining but feel your kitchen lacks space? You can increase your counter space by adding a kitchen island to provide a spot for food preparation and extra seating. Some even have hidden compartments for pet food and supplies so you can tuck away the bowls and kibble after mealtime. Be sure to stock it with high quality and delicious kibble dog food to make your pooch happy. Try out grain-free options that are also high in protein or even freeze dried options that will make your dog happy.

It’s also a great place to add a small bar. If you love entertaining, such as hosting holiday parties, having extra workspace in your kitchen can make food preparation much more manageable. Kitchen islands come in different shapes and sizes, so you should have no problem finding one that works for your space.

Spruce Your Home Up

It’s important that your house or apartment feels like home. Fortunately, you don’t need to complete a full renovation to make this happen. Make a few changes, such as adding plants and shelves, painting walls, deep cleaning with natural ingredients, and replacing furniture. With some new color and a few great storage options, you’ll be feeling relaxed and happy again in your revitalized home.

If you’re looking for a new home in Oregon, contact the realty team at Eastern Oregon Living. Then, you can make these and more permanent changes to your new home.
