7 tips for planning a move

Relocation to Eastern Oregon is something many people dream about. If you’re someone who loves to spend their time outside and soak in the beauty of the sights that nature has to offer, it just makes sense. However, moving isn’t something you can just up and do. You need to dedicate some time and attention to it. In the spirit of making this transition easier for you, we’ve gathered tips for planning a move that you can apply to your case.

1. To-do lists are great

If you’ve decided that moving to Eastern Oregon is a step in the right direction for you, the first thing you should focus on is simplifying the process. A great way to do this is by taking the time to plan out a rough timetable of all the chores your relocation will entail. Planning a move is much easier if you have a guideline to follow and rely on. If you’re not too sure about all the tasks you should put on your to-do list, you can always ask for help. Either contact your friends and family who have gone through this process and know the ins and outs of moving or hire professionals who’ll undoubtedly have all the answers you need.

Planning a relocation by writing a to-do list first will help you have a much smoother experience.

2. Hire a reliable moving company

To plan your move, you need more than a single set of skills in your repertoire. Thus, it’s very likely that you’ll require some help. Hiring a reliable moving company is a good idea for a few reasons. Firstly, you won’t have to put your friends and family out if they’re not currently able to help you move. Secondly, you’ll have a much easier time being direct and stating your needs if you’ve paid for a service instead of asking for help. Thirdly and finally, hiring movers will ensure that you’re getting top-notch high-quality service and that you’ll be able to rely on the company to do all the heavy lifting on their own. Pairing up with zaptmovers.com will give you plenty of time to deal with other ventures, whether they’re moving-related or not.

3. Set a budget to make planning a move easier

A critical step in planning a move is organizing how much you’re willing to spend on it. You must make a precise and detailed to-do list before this step. This is because you’ll need to organize how your budget will seep into all these particular things. The best way to manage your budget and see how much you’ll need to set aside for moving is to prioritize. Know that you probably won’t experience smooth sailing when it comes to this. Most people need to cut some things from their plan since they cannot comfortably afford it right away. That’s perfectly fine, and you should be rational and reasonable about this. The things that aren’t necessary will still be there once you’ve relocated and recovered your budget.

Organizing a move is impossible without creating a spending limit and being honest with yourself about how much you’re willing to spend.

4. Get to know your future community

An essential part of relocation that not many people pay attention to is getting to know your neighborhood. Before you’ve even purchased the home you’re planning to move into, you should see whether it’s a good fit. Luckily for you, the community in Eastern Oregon is at an enviable level. The people are great, the neighborhoods are very safe, and the prices are very reasonable. However, there still may be some personal preferences that you’d like to check out. Make a list of your must-haves and research before you make any big decisions.

5. Packing is a bigger deal than you might think

One of the most overlooked parts of the moving process is packing your belongings. Of course, everyone is aware that they’ll have to do it. However, the chances are that the quick packing process that you might expect won’t be that quick at all. Don’t merely focus on organizing transportation and leave the rest to the last minute. Start packing as soon as possible. Here are some of the most critical steps you should take:

  • Make an inventory list
  • Just as you’ve created a moving to-do list, you should make a list of all your prized possessions. Try to be as meticulous and thorough as possible. How well you do this step will determine how easy or hard unpacking will be.
  • Place your belongings into boxes and label them
  • Take all your items and divide them into categories. Once you’ve done this, pack them into boxes. Don’t forget to label them and pay extra attention to the fragile items.
  • Find a temporary storage solution
  • If your relocation isn’t timed perfectly, and chances are it won’t be, you’ll need a place to keep your items safe and sound. Renting a storage unit will offer just this.

6. Declutter and donate

In addition to packing, you’ll also need to decide what to do with the items you don’t want to keep. The first step will, of course, be to recycle. Take the time to go through everything you own and set aside the things you no longer use. Then, you can divide them into things that are trash material and items that someone might still have some use for. The fact that you don’t need something anymore doesn’t necessarily make it useless to everybody.

A significant part of planning your move is decluttering and organizing your clothes.

7. Find some time to have fun

Finally, even though moving is serious business, you should still find a way to enjoy it and have fun.

  • Plan what your life will be like

Sitting down with your family and imagining how great your future home will be and all the new memories you’ll make is a great way to relax a bit.

  • Explore the place you’re moving to

Another great way to have some fun is by visiting popular attractions in Oregon that you’ve always wanted to go to. From the mesmerizing Columbia River to the marvelous Cannon Beach, you’re sure to enjoy every minute of this road trip.

  • Take a break

As you’ve had a chance to find out, planning a move can be exhausting. Taking some time off and focusing on other things isn’t always a bad idea. You’ll recoup and regain some strength that’s necessary to continue.
