Guide to Oregon change of address

June 22, 2021 by Paladin Realty Team

(Submitted by Lisa Roberts.)

Having to adjust to a new scene isn’t an easy thing to do as there’s quite a bit that goes into a relocation. Moving to Oregon is a really exciting thing. In all this excitement, people usually focus only on the bigger things they need to achieve. Consequently, some smaller ones remain forgotten. However, to have a peaceful and successful relocation, you should try to think about every little detail. Getting to your Oregon change of address is something that many people forget until late. Here’s how to do it quickly and without any fuss.

How to change your address in Oregon

The most usual way of changing your address in Oregon is by notifying the DMV. You can go about this in three ways:

  • Get on the official online site of the DMV
  • If you’re unable to visit your local DMV to change your address in Oregon, worry not. You can always do this through their official website. What’s more, this is undoubtedly the fastest and easiest way. Something you should know is that there is a small charge if you choose this alternative which means you’ll need to give your credit/debit card info, share your valid email address, and an identity verification fee. If there is anything other than this being asked of you, make sure to double-check the site. There are frauds out there.
  • Contact the DMV at 503-945-5000
  • Contacting the DMV may sound a bit old-fashioned. However, it’s a perfectly valid way of changing your Oregon address.
  • Visit your local DMV office
  • Of course, there’s always the option of doing this face-to-face. Seeing how the Oregon community is great and pretty organized, you shouldn’t run into any issues along the way.

Remember that the law in Oregon requires you to notify the DMV of your change of address within 30 days.

If you’re trying to find the easiest way of changing your address in Oregon, going to a DMV site is your best bet.

Change your address by visiting the Postal Service

Again, if you wish to do your Oregon change of address with the Postal Service, you have the same three options as with the DMV. If you decide to take this route, you can visit your local post office and request a Mover’s Guide packet. In it, you’ll get a PS Form 3575. Once you fill out the form and give it to a postal worker, expect a confirmation letter.

What you should expect from the DMV

Once you’ve notified the DMV of your change of address and set the process in motion, here’s what you can expect:

The DMV will update your:

  • Driver License, Permit, or ID Card record
  • Vehicle registration records
  • Voter registration record (if you specify that this is something you want)

They, however, won’t update your address with the U.S. Postal Service. It is something you’ll need to do on your own.

Make changes or cancelations for your Oregon change of address

If you’re interested in canceling your request or making any changes to your Oregon address change, that shouldn’t be too hard. All you’ll need is your confirmation number. Find this number on the letter or email that you got back when you initially requested this service. Once you have it, you can easily update, view, or cancel the request online.

If you need to cancel or change your request for an Oregon address change at any time, you can do so easily.

Filing a complaint

Know that you can always file a complaint if you’re being mistreated or aren’t getting the service you have the right to. Making your Oregon address change should be a smooth process, and you shouldn’t have to settle for anything less.

Moving to Oregon – what you should know

Of course, there are some bigger things you need to get to before approaching your change of address. Moving to Oregon isn’t the easiest of ventures, and you need to be quite careful and present for everything to go right. Here are some basics you should cover before heading to this beautiful state.

Hire a moving company

One of the essential steps of moving is hiring a good moving company. Luckily, this shouldn’t be a problem since there’s a lot of great companies in Oregon. So go through the Best Cross Country Movers database. Select a few companies and do some research on all of them until you can pick the right one. Check the reviews, visit their website, check the services they offer and get a moving quote. It will help you determine which company gives you the best value for your money and which one can provide you with all the services you need.

Plan everything ahead

Make sure to use all the time that you have at your disposal. Only then will you be able to get to all the bigger and smaller parts of moving. Aside from the Oregon change of address, you’ll run into plenty of other seemingly unimportant details that you should get to sooner rather than later.

Packing and unpacking

One of the most dreaded parts of relocation is certainly packing and unpacking. Nevertheless, this doesn’t have to be so painstaking for you. If you have managed to determine your priorities regarding what you’ll keep and what you no longer need, where to start unpacking, etc., half the job is done. Having said this, you also need to find a way to organize the packing equipment and label everything as well as possible.

If moving to Oregon is something that you’re planning on, you should get to packing as soon as possible.

Find great real estate agents

Another part of relocation that could be problematic but certainly shouldn’t be in Oregon is finding good real estate agents. Lucky for you, Oregon offers a great pick to choose from. Even if you’ve researched the market, you should contact professionals to help you out before making an offer. Purchasing a home isn’t something you should take lightly. And your agent can help you every step of the way.

Stay calm and enjoy your new home

Whether we’re talking about your Oregon change of address or something else you’ll need to do before your move, you need to find a way to stay calm. Having a stress-free relocation should be your top priority. Even though it’s sometimes easy to get caught up in all the relocation chores and feel overwhelmed, find something that grounds you.
