Jacie Sites and the Nit Pickers

(Welcome to the first calendar of the evolving Eastern Oregon Living website. We’re still experimenting with formatting & general what-not, so please bear with us.)

Just because February is the shortest month doesn’t mean we’re short of events, performances, and general stuff to do in and around Pendleton.
Pendleton Public Library

Pendleton Public Library – 502 SW Dorion Ave

Sleep is good and books are better ~ Tyrion Lannister, A Clash of Kings

The city of Pendleton Public Library has events all month long designed to encourage kids & adults alike to play indoors.

Library Story Time takes place each Thursday morning at 10:15am. While all ages are welcome, the program is geared toward kids 6 and under.

Library Cookbook Club is a monthly event happening the first Thursday of the month (the 5th February) from 6 – 7pm. The Cookbook Club is an opportunity to try out recipes from the library’s diverse cookbook collection. This month it’s Tea and Cookies. Register through this link and you will be emailed two recipe options from the month’s selection. Reply to the email and let ‘em know which recipe you will be preparing, then make the recipe for 12 people and bring it in on the designated day. It’s like a regular book club, only with dinner provided. Attendees at the February meeting will select books for the next 3-4 months.

Pendleton knitters won’t want to miss Knitting at the Library, Wed Feb 11 2026, 4:30 – 5:30pm. Bring your current knitting project to the library with you, or start a new one while your visit with friends during Pendleton library’s monthly knitting group. Need some inspiration? Stop by early and check out one of their MANY books on knitting, or check out one of their knitting Library of Things packages. All levels welcome.

Or just come to the library to read, play games & hang out with fellow erudite folk. Library hours are Monday-Thursday: 10-7, Friday & Saturday: 10-5, closed on Sunday. Click here for their website.

Holiday party at Great Pacific, one of the best restaurants in Pendleton

Great Pacific – 403 S Main St, Pendleton, OR 97801

Legendary Pendleton Gastropub Great Pacific is hosting a couple of mid-to-late month events to help us get through this mid-to-late winter.

On Friday, February 20, come on down between 6-8 to see dadweed (non-capitalization is their brand) an acoustic trio based out of Portland blending elements of jazz/folk/pop/R&B within a traditional bluegrass lens. Leaning heavily into three-part vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumentation with a focus on improvisation, dadweed strives to redefine what’s possible in bluegrass. The trio has toured throughout the west coast since 2024, appearing at festivals, venues, and private events. dadweed released their first EP in Summer 2024 and will continue to release new singles throughout 2025.

Following the show, well, you don’t have to go home but you can’t stay at GP (at least not past closing time). But you can come back the next evening, same GP time, same GP channel, to experience the music of Mac Cornish. If you dig the look, aesthetic and music of Laurel Canyon – think Linda Ronstadt, Gram Parsons, Jackson Browne and Buffalo Springfield, songs of love and loss, tragedy and tranquillity, we think you’ll be enchanted.  A true gem of the west, heart, mind, body, and soul.

Show or no-show, you can show up at GP 7 days a week for food, folks, and a selection of beers, ciders and wines rivaling any fancy Portland supermarket

Participate in Dry January? Reward yourself with a subscription to Great Pacific’s Wine Club. Check their website for this and other events:  https://www.hellogreatpacific.com/events.

Unity Records

Unity Collectibles – 237 S Main St,  Pendleton

Who are the Burringtons? Are they a Ska band? An invite-only secret society? Or are they Pendleton’s hardest-working punk rockers? Perhaps they’re all three.

Come on down to Unity Collectibles and chill with Josh and Jennifer as they spin records and create a DIY safe space that’s just rough enough around the edges to appeal to aging punk rockers like yours truly.

Weekends are when most events happen, including DJ Day (not to be confused with either the character “D-Day” from the film Animal House or D-Day, the OG Antifa rally that resulted in the liberation of Europe) a gathering of local DJs held from 12-5pm.

This Saturday (Jan 31) featured DJ Retro, DJ Swiftie Dave, and Gordon (presumably also a DJ). The DJ line up for Saturday, Feb 28th is TBA, so watch this space.

Band at Pendleton Center for the Arts
Jacie Sites and the Nit Pickers

As far as performances go, we’ve never seen Jacie Sites and the Nit Pickers, but they sure look like a nice bunch. Jacie Sites & The Nitpickers deliver a high-energy Americana sound rooted in old-time fiddle, bluegrass, and rustic Northwest tradition. Led by 5-time National Fiddle Champion and Grand Master Champion Jacie Sites, the band blends powerhouse fiddle melodies with guitar, dobro, cello, banjo, and harmonica to provide a soul-satisfying musical experience. The show is on Thurs, Feb 12 at 7:00 PM, doors open at 6:30, and tickets can be purchased here: https://pendletonarts.org/product/jacie-sites-and-the-nit-pickers/.

Of course, the Pendleton Center for the Arts is open from 10-4 PM Tue-Fri and 12-4 PM Saturdays, so come on down to check out the exhibits, read & buy some ‘zines & indy publications in the back, or peruse purchasable works of local artists from all over Eastern Oregon.
